About Anthony Perkins

Anthony Perkins was an American actor, born on 4 April 1932 in New York City. His first film role was in The Actress in 1953, and the next year he made his Broadway debut in Tea and Sympathy. He is best known for portraying Norman Bates in Alfred Hitchcock's 1960 film Psycho.

In 1956 Perkins played his first major film role in Friendly Persuasion, which earned him a Golden Globe Award for Best New Actor of the Year and an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor. He signed a seven-year contract with Paramount Pictures and starred in Fear Strikes Out in 1957. Psycho cast him against type and changed his image, after which he moved to France. His first film there, Goodbye Again in 1961, earned him the Cannes Film Festival Award for Best Actor.
