About George Sanders

George Sanders was a Russian-born British actor and singer, born on 3 July 1906 in Saint Petersburg. His career spanned more than 40 years, and a heavy, upper-class English accent and smooth bass voice often led to him being cast as sophisticated but villainous characters.

Sanders is remembered for playing Jack Favell in Rebecca in 1940 and Scott Ffolliott in Foreign Correspondent the same year. He appeared as the Saran of Gaza in Samson and Delilah in 1949, then won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for playing the theatre critic Addison DeWitt in All About Eve in 1950. He also voiced Shere Khan in Disney's The Jungle Book in 1967 and starred as Simon Templar in five Saint films.
