About Janet Leigh

Janet Leigh was an American actress, businesswoman and author, born on 6 July 1927 in Merced. She was raised in Stockton, California, by working-class parents, and at 18 she was discovered by the actress Norma Shearer, who helped her secure a contract with MGM. Her early films included Little Women, Scaramouche and The Naked Spur. She married the actor Tony Curtis in 1951.

After leaving MGM in 1954, Leigh signed with Universal and Columbia Pictures and appeared in Safari and Orson Welles' Touch of Evil. She played Marion Crane in Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho in 1960, winning the Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress and earning an Academy Award nomination in the same category. She later starred with her daughter, Jamie Lee Curtis, in The Fog, and wrote four books between 1984 and 2002.
