About Jim Carrey

Jim Carrey is a Canadian and American actor, comedian and visual artist, born on 17 January 1962 in Newmarket. Known primarily for energetic slapstick performances, he has received two Golden Globe Awards. After spending the 1980s honing his comedy act and playing supporting roles in films, he gained recognition when cast in the Fox sketch comedy series In Living Color.

Carrey broke out as a film star in a string of box office hits, including Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, The Mask and Dumb and Dumber, all released in 1994. He became the first comic actor to receive an upfront 20 million dollar salary, beginning with The Cable Guy in 1996. He continued with comedies such as Liar Liar and Bruce Almighty. Since 2020 he has played Doctor Eggman in the Sonic the Hedgehog films.
