About Paul Mescal

Paul Mescal is an Irish actor, born on 2 February 1996 in Maynooth. He was born in Dublin and raised in Maynooth, studied acting at The Lir Academy and then performed in plays in Dublin theatres. His accolades include two BAFTA Awards and a Laurence Olivier Award.

Mescal's breakthrough came with the lead role in the miniseries Normal People in 2020, which earned him the British Academy Television Award for Best Actor. He moved into film with The Lost Daughter in 2021, and received an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor for Aftersun in 2022. He gained further recognition in All of Us Strangers, Gladiator II and Hamnet, in which he played William Shakespeare. On stage, he played Stanley Kowalski in a West End revival of A Streetcar Named Desire in 2022, which won him the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Actor.
