About Peter Bogdanovich
Peter Bogdanovich was an American director, writer, actor, producer, critic and film historian, born on 30 July 1939 in Kingston. He began as a young actor studying under Stella Adler, then worked as a film critic for Film Culture and Esquire before becoming a prominent filmmaker of the New Hollywood movement. He died on 6 January 2022.
Bogdanovich was hired to work on Roger Corman's The Wild Angels in 1966, and his credited feature debut was Targets in 1968. His breakthrough was The Last Picture Show in 1971, which earned Academy Award nominations for Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay, followed by What's Up, Doc? and Paper Moon. As an actor he was known for The Sopranos. He also wrote books that included interviews with Howard Hawks, Alfred Hitchcock and Orson Welles.
