About Mario Lemieux

Mario Lemieux is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player, born on 5 October 1965 in Montreal. Nicknamed Super Mario and the Magnificent One, he played parts of 17 seasons in the National Hockey League for the Pittsburgh Penguins between 1984 and 2005.

The Penguins drafted Lemieux first overall in 1984, and he led them to Stanley Cup championships in 1991 and 1992. He won the Hart Trophy three times, the Art Ross Trophy six times and the Conn Smythe Trophy in 1991 and 1992, and he led Team Canada to Olympic gold in 2002. In 1999 he bought the Penguins, and he is the only man to have his name on the Cup as both a player and an owner.
