About Carlos Vela

Carlos Vela is a Mexican former professional footballer. He was born on 1 March 1989 in Cancun. A versatile offensive player, he could be deployed as a forward, winger or attacking midfielder. He began his career at Guadalajara and finished as the top scorer at the 2005 FIFA U-17 World Championship, joining Premier League club Arsenal that year.

After Arsenal, Vela had loan spells at Salamanca, Osasuna and West Bromwich Albion before settling at Real Sociedad in 2011. In six years there he played 250 matches and scored 73 goals. He joined Los Angeles FC in January 2018 and won the MLS Golden Boot and the Supporters' Shield in his second year, setting a league record of 34 goals in a season. In 2022 he won a second Supporters' Shield and the MLS Cup, and he announced his retirement in 2025. He debuted for Mexico in 2007, won the 2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup and played at the 2010 and 2018 World Cups.
