About John McGinn

John McGinn is a Scottish footballer who plays as a midfielder. He was born on 18 October 1994 in Glasgow and grew up in a footballing family. He plays for Premier League club Aston Villa, which he captains, and for the Scotland national team.

McGinn started his career with St Mirren and won the Scottish League Cup in 2013 during his first season as a first team player. He moved to Hibernian in 2015, winning the Scottish Cup in 2016 and promotion in 2017. He signed for Aston Villa in August 2018, scoring the winning goal in the play-off final that took Villa up to the Premier League. He became captain in July 2022. For Scotland he has played at UEFA Euro 2020, Euro 2024 and the 2026 FIFA World Cup, and he is the country's third-highest capped player.
