About Pele

Pele, born Edson Arantes do Nascimento, was a Brazilian professional footballer who played as a forward. He was born on 23 October 1940 in Três Corações and died on 29 December 2022. He began playing for the Brazilian club Santos at age 15 and for the Brazil national team at 16.

Pele won three FIFA World Cup titles, in 1958, 1962 and 1970, and was the youngest winner at 17. He scored 77 goals in 92 games for Brazil and held the national scoring record for over fifty years. At Santos he is the all-time top goalscorer with 643 goals in 659 games and led the club to the 1962 and 1963 Copa Libertadores and Intercontinental Cup. His 1,279 goals in 1,363 games, including exhibition games, is a Guinness World Record. After retiring in 1977 he became an ambassador for football.
