About Seydou Keita

Seydou Keita is a Malian former professional footballer who also holds French nationality, born on 16 January 1980 in Bamako. A versatile midfielder, he played as both a central and a defensive midfielder, starting his youth career in Mali and his professional career with Marseille.

Keita is best known for his spells at Lens, where he spent five seasons, and Barcelona, where he spent four and won 14 titles after signing in 2008. His career also took him to clubs in France, Spain, China, Italy and Qatar. He is the record appearance holder and record scorer for the Mali national football team, with 102 caps and 25 goals, and he played in seven Africa Cup of Nations tournaments after first representing Mali at the age of 18.
