About Sonja Henie

Sonja Henie was a Norwegian figure skater and film star, born on 8 April 1912 in Oslo. She died on 12 October 1969.

Henie was a three-time Olympic champion in women's singles, in 1928, 1932 and 1936, a ten-time World champion from 1927 to 1936 and a six-time European champion from 1931 to 1936. She won more Olympic and World titles than any other ladies' figure skater. At the height of her American acting career she starred in box-office hits including Thin Ice, Happy Landing, My Lucky Star, Second Fiddle and Sun Valley Serenade.

Henie stood a listed 165 cm (5'5"). She is one of only two skaters to successfully defend a ladies' singles Olympic title.
