About Tommy Haas

Tommy Haas is a German former professional tennis player. He was born on 3 April 1978 in Hamburg to Brigitte and Peter Haas. He started playing his own version of tennis at four, using a wooden plank to hit balls against a wall or into the hands of his father, who was a tennis coach.

Haas won his first youth tournament in Hamburg at five and his second in Munich at eight. Between the ages of 11 and 13 he twice won the Austrian Championship, the German Championship and the European Championship. His talent was noted by Nick Bollettieri. He competed on the ATP Tour from 1996 to 2017 and was ranked world No. 2 in singles in May 2002. He won 15 career singles titles, including the 2001 Stuttgart Masters, and a silver medal at the 2000 Sydney Olympics.

At a listed 188 cm (6'2"), Haas reached the semifinals of the Australian Open three times and of Wimbledon once. He also reached the quarterfinal stage at each of the four majors.
