About Kelvin Kiptum

Kelvin Kiptum was a Kenyan long-distance runner, born on 2 December 1999 in Chepkorio. He held the marathon world record between 2023 and 2026 and died on 11 February 2024.

Kiptum won all three marathons he ran, including two World Marathon Majors, between December 2022 and October 2023. He ran the fastest-ever marathon debut at the 2022 Valencia Marathon, becoming the third man in history to break two hours and two minutes. In April 2023 he ran the second-fastest marathon in history at the London Marathon, in 2:01:25. At the 2023 Chicago Marathon he broke the world record with a time of 2:00:35, a mark ratified by World Athletics on 6 February 2024. He was ranked first among the world's male marathon runners at the time of his death.
