About John Cleese
John Cleese is an English actor, comedian, screenwriter, producer and television presenter, born on 27 October 1939 in Weston-super-Mare. He emerged from the Cambridge Footlights in the 1960s and first found success at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and as a writer and performer on The Frost Report. In the late 1960s he cofounded Monty Python, the troupe behind Monty Python's Flying Circus.
Cleese starred in Monty Python and the Holy Grail (1975), Life of Brian (1979) and The Meaning of Life (1983). With Connie Booth he cowrote Fawlty Towers (1975 to 1979), in which he played hotel owner Basil Fawlty and won a British Academy Television Award. He wrote and starred in A Fish Called Wanda (1988), which brought Academy Award nominations, and played Nearly Headless Nick in the Harry Potter films and R and Q in James Bond films.
