About Lucille Ball

Lucille Ball was an American comedian, actress, producer and studio executive, born on 6 August 1911 in Jamestown. Her career began in 1929 when she worked as a model, and she then began performing on Broadway under the stage name Diane Belmont. In the 1930s and 1940s she appeared in films as a contract player for RKO Radio Pictures, often cast as a chorus girl.

In the 1950s she and her husband Desi Arnaz created the sitcom I Love Lucy. In 1962 she became the first woman to run a major television studio, Desilu Productions, which produced Mission: Impossible and Star Trek. She later starred in The Lucy Show and Here's Lucy. She was nominated for 13 Primetime Emmy Awards, winning five, and received the Kennedy Center Honor and, posthumously, the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
