About Tutankhamun

Tutankhamun was the third to last pharaoh of the Eighteenth Dynasty of ancient Egypt. He was born around 1342 BC, and was originally named Tutankhaten. He ruled from around 1332 to 1323 BC, and died at about the age of 19.

His administration restored the traditional polytheistic form of ancient Egyptian religion, undoing a previous shift to Atenism. The cult of the god Amun at Thebes was restored to prominence, and he and his wife changed their names to Tutankhamun and Ankhesenamun. He moved the royal court from Amarna back to Memphis and re-established diplomatic relations with the Mitanni. He also carried out military campaigns in Nubia and the Near East.

Tutankhamun stood a listed 167 cm (5'6"). He died around 1323 BC with his royal tomb unfinished, and was buried in a small non-royal tomb adapted for the purpose. He was succeeded by Ay. He was one of only a few kings known to be worshipped as a deity during their lifetime.
