Jessica Simpson, born Jessica Ann Johnson on 10 July 1980 in Abilene, is an American singer, actress and fashion designer. After performing in church choirs as a child, she signed with Columbia Records in 1997 at age seventeen.

Her debut studio album, Sweet Kisses (1999), sold two million copies in the United States. She gained wider recognition through her marriage to Nick Lachey and their MTV series Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica (2003 to 2005). She made her film debut as Daisy Duke in The Dukes of Hazzard (2005) and later ventured into country music with Do You Know (2008).
