About Ringo Starr

Sir Richard Starkey, known as Ringo Starr, is an English musician, singer, songwriter and actor who became internationally famous as the drummer of the Beatles. He was born on 7 July 1940 in Dingle. He had life-threatening illnesses as a child, with long stays in hospital, and as a teenager he became a keen follower of skiffle.

In 1957 he co-founded his first band, the Eddie Clayton Skiffle Group. He was later a member of Rory Storm and the Hurricanes, and in August 1962 he left that group to join the Beatles, replacing Pete Best. He sang lead on songs such as Yellow Submarine and With a Little Help from My Friends and wrote Don't Pass Me By and Octopus's Garden. After the Beatles, his solo hits included It Don't Come Easy, Photograph and You're Sixteen, and his 1973 album Ringo reached the top ten in the UK and the US.
