About "Weird Al" Yankovic

"Weird Al" Yankovic, born Alfred Matthew Yankovic on 23 October 1959 in Downey, is an American musician best known for writing and performing comedy songs that often parody songs by contemporary musicians. His trademark instrument is the accordion, and he also performs polka medleys of popular songs.

After one of his comedy songs aired on The Dr. Demento Radio Show in 1976, when he was 16, Yankovic went on to sell more than 12 million albums. His first top ten Billboard album, Straight Outta Lynwood, and single, White & Nerdy, came in 2006, and his fourteenth studio album, Mandatory Fun (2014), became his first number one album. He wrote and starred in the film UHF in 1989 and the television series The Weird Al Show in 1997. His work has earned him five Grammy Awards and eleven further nominations.
