About Nicolae Ciucă

Nicolae Ciucă, whose full name is Nicolae Ionel Ciucă, is a former Romanian politician and retired general of the Romanian Land Forces. He was born on 22 September 1967 in Plenița. He took part in the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq and was Chief of the Romanian General Staff from 2015 to 2019.

From 2019 to 2021 Ciucă was Minister of Defence. He briefly led the Romanian government as caretaker from 7 to 23 December 2020. President Klaus Iohannis nominated him to form a government in November 2021, and he served as Prime Minister of Romania from 25 November 2021 to 12 June 2023, with support from the National Liberal Party, the Social Democratic Party and the Democratic Alliance of Hungarians in Romania. He was president of the National Liberal Party from 10 April 2022 until his resignation on 25 November 2024.

Ciucă has a listed height of 185 cm (6'1"). As part of an agreement with the Social Democratic Party, he resigned as prime minister on 12 June 2023 to switch places with Marcel Ciolacu.
