About Nicolas Sarkozy

Nicolas Sarkozy is a French former politician, born Nicolas Paul Stéphane Sarközy de Nagy-Bocsa on 28 January 1955 in Paris. He was mayor of Neuilly-sur-Seine from 1983 to 2002. He served as Minister of the Budget under Prime Minister Édouard Balladur from 1993 to 1995.

During Jacques Chirac's second presidential term, Sarkozy served as Minister of the Interior and as Minister of Finances. He led the Union for a Popular Movement party from 2004 to 2007. He won the 2007 French presidential election with 53.1 percent of the vote against Ségolène Royal. During his term he initiated the reform of French universities in 2007 and the pension reform in 2010. In the 2012 election he was defeated by François Hollande.
