About Padma Lakshmi

Padma Lakshmi is an American television host, model, author, entrepreneur and activist, born Padma Parvati Vaidynathan on 1 September 1970 in Chennai, India. She immigrated to the United States as a child and became a model before embarking on a career on television.

Lakshmi rose to prominence by hosting the Bravo cooking competition Top Chef from 2006 to 2023. She is the creator, host and executive producer of the docuseries Taste the Nation with Padma Lakshmi, which premiered on Hulu in 2020, and has received 16 Primetime Emmy Award nominations for her work on the two series. She has written five books, including the memoir Love, Loss, and What We Ate and the children's book Tomatoes for Neela. She co-founded the Endometriosis Foundation of America in 2009, was appointed a United Nations Development Programme Goodwill Ambassador in 2019, and was listed among Time magazine's 100 most influential people in 2023.
