Predict a child's adult height from the parents' heights

The mid-parental method estimates how tall a child is likely to become using only the mother's and father's heights. Enter both parents' heights and the child's sex to get an estimate with a typical range.

For a boy, add 13 cm to the sum of the parents' heights and divide by two; for a girl, subtract 13 cm. The result is the child's predicted adult height. Most children end up within about 8.5 cm of this estimate.

This is a rough estimate based only on parental height, not a medical prediction. A child's adult height also depends on nutrition, health, and growth patterns. For any concern about your child's growth, consult a healthcare professional.
