About Marilyn Monroe

Marilyn Monroe was an American actress and model, born on 1 June 1926 in Los Angeles. She spent most of her childhood in foster homes and an orphanage. While working in a factory during World War II she met a photographer from the First Motion Picture Unit and began a successful pin-up modelling career, which led to film contracts with 20th Century Fox and Columbia Pictures. She signed a longer contract with Fox in 1951.

Monroe became one of the most marketable stars in Hollywood in 1953, with leading roles in Niagara and Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. She starred in The Seven Year Itch in 1955, founded her own production company in 1954 with Milton Greene, and studied method acting under Lee Strasberg. She won a Golden Globe for Some Like It Hot, and her last completed film was The Misfits, released in 1961.
