About Kobe Bryant

Kobe Bryant was an American professional basketball player, nicknamed the Black Mamba. He was born on 23 August 1978 in Philadelphia, the son of NBA player Joe Bryant and his wife Pam, and he spent part of his childhood in Italy. He played high school basketball at Lower Merion High School outside Philadelphia. He opted out of college basketball and declared for the 1996 NBA draft.

The Charlotte Hornets selected Bryant with the 13th pick, and he was then traded to the Los Angeles Lakers, where he played his entire 20-year career. With Shaquille O'Neal he led the Lakers to three consecutive NBA championships from 2000 to 2002. He scored a career-high 81 points on 22 January 2006. He won the 2008 NBA MVP award, then titles in 2009 and 2010, being named Finals MVP both times. He also won gold at the 2008 and 2012 Olympics and retired after the 2015 to 2016 season. The Lakers retired both his numbers, 8 and 24.
