About José María Giménez

José María Giménez is a Uruguayan professional footballer who plays as a centre-back. He was born on 20 January 1995 in Toledo. He began his professional career with Danubio FC before signing for Atlético Madrid.

Giménez spent over a decade at Atlético Madrid and played more than 350 games. He won five major titles there, including the La Liga title in 2013 to 2014 and 2020 to 2021, and the UEFA Europa League in 2017 to 2018. He is now with La Liga club Deportivo A Coruña on loan from Atlético. He made his Uruguay debut in 2013, has represented the nation at four FIFA World Cups and five editions of the Copa América, and captains the national team.
