About Martin Harnik

Martin Harnik is a professional footballer who plays for the German fifth-tier club TuS Dassendorf. He was born on 10 June 1987 in Hamburg, the youngest of three children, and was raised in the Hamburg district of Kirchwerder. His father is from Styria in Austria and his mother is from Hamburg. He has represented the Austria national team and plays as a forward or right winger.

Harnik started playing football in 1992 at SC Vier- und Marschlande. In early 2006 he joined the second team of Werder Bremen in the third-tier Regionalliga. A broken metatarsal bone kept him out for almost all of the first half of 2007. He was promoted to the Werder Bremen Bundesliga side for 2007 to 2008 and made his debut against Dinamo Zagreb on 15 August 2007, aged 20. Ten days later, on his Bundesliga debut, he scored the winning goal.
