About Rey Mysterio

Rey Mysterio, born Óscar Gutiérrez Rubio, is an American professional wrestler. He was born on 11 December 1974 in San Diego. He is the nephew and trainee of Rey Misterio, and began wrestling on the independent circuit in 1989 at the age of 14 before joining Asistencia Asesoría y Administración in 1992.

After brief stints with Extreme Championship Wrestling and Wrestle Association R, Mysterio signed with World Championship Wrestling in 1996, where he helped popularize lucha libre in the United States and won the WCW Cruiserweight Championship five times. He lost his mask in a match against Kevin Nash. He joined WWE in 2002 and stayed until 2015, winning the World Heavyweight Championship twice, the WWE Championship once and the 2006 Royal Rumble. He appeared in promotions including New Japan Pro-Wrestling and Lucha Underground, and returned to WWE in 2018 with his son Dominik. He is an inductee of the WWE Hall of Fame.
