About Manute Bol
Manute Bol was a South Sudanese-American professional basketball player and political activist. He was born on 16 October 1962 in Turalei and died on 19 June 2010. He played college basketball for the Bridgeport Purple Knights before turning professional.
The Washington Bullets selected Bol in the 1985 NBA draft. He played for the Bullets and three other teams during an NBA career that lasted from 1985 to 1995. A center, he is considered among the best shot-blockers in the history of the sport, and he is the only NBA player to retire with more career blocked shots than points scored. He ranked second in NBA history in blocked shots per game and 17th in total blocked shots.
At a listed 231 cm (7'7"), Bol stood as one of the two tallest players in the history of the NBA. He was also known for his efforts to promote human rights in his native Sudan and to aid Sudanese refugees.
